1.机械密封(mechanical seal)是指由至少一对垂直于旋转轴线的端面在流体压力和补偿机构弹力(或磁力)的作用下以及辅助密封的配合下保持贴合并相对滑动而构成的防止流体泄漏的装置。弹力加载机构与辅助密封是金属性纹管的机械密封我们称为金属波纹管密封。在轻型密封中，还有使用橡胶波纹管作辅助密封的，橡胶波纹管弹力有限，一般需要辅以弹簧来满足加载弹力。 "机械密封"通常被人们简称为"机封"。
